1) Room Freshener
To use as a room freshener, add a few drops (6 – 8) of your favorite scent to a bowl of water on a table or counter top. Warm water will help in spreading the scent faster. If you need quick freshening, add the essential oil to a pan of boiling water. To freshen your home, there are several light scents such as orange, lemon, and verbena that are perfect. If you need to relax and chill, lavender or sandalwood would be just the thing!
For a quick deodorizer, add a few drops of essential oil to water and keep in a spray type bottle. It can be used in your bathroom and around pet areas for a quick freshening. My favorite is using a quick spritz of lavender essential oil in the bedroom. It creates a nice relaxing scent.
3) Closet and Drawers Freshener
For some reason, closets and drawers can get a musty smell. By adding a few drops of essential oils added to cotton balls and placing them in your closet or drawers, it will keep them smelling nice. Some great essential oils to use in closets and drawers are lavender, sandalwood and cedar.
4) Heat and Air Vent Diffuser
To keep your home smelling nice, place a few drops of your favorite essential oil on a cotton ball, or other type cotton pad. Place the cotton ball inside your heat or air vent. Each time your heat or air kicks on, it will send a nice light fragrance throughout your home.
5) Sinus Remedy – Natural remedy for stuffiness, congestion, etc.
This is another of my very favorites! As I suffer from year around allergies, my nose stays stuffy. It’s also wonderful if you have a cold or are sick to help open up your sinuses. To use, just place a few drops of eucalyptus oil in hot water. Place in a bowl in a room, or on your night stand, to help you breath better throughout the night. You can also use in a hot water vaporizer as well.
It seems even when sick, I can’t escape the daily vacuuming chore. I have a Rainbow Vacuum cleaner, which uses water in the bowl. I place a few drops of eucalyptus oil in the water of the bowl and it releases a light fragrance while I work!
6) Refrigerator Deodorizer
To keep your refrigerator nice and fresh, you can place several drops of mint, orange or lemon oil in warm water. Use the water and and a clean sponge to clean the inside of your refrigerator. It will leave it smelling nice and fresh!

To clean your kitchen and bathroom counter tops, use equal parts distilled white vinegar and water. Add in a few drops of lemon, basil, thyme, or even geranium oil.

While light bulbs are cold, add a drop of your favorite essential oil to the light bulbs. When the light is turned on, the heat from the bulb will heat the oil and fill the room with fragrance. I like the citrus scents of orange and grapefruit throughout the house because they are invigorating. Of course in the bedroom, lavender is perfect for relaxing.

Lemon essential oil can be used to make your own furniture polish! It’s really easy by adding 4 to 6 drops of lemon essential oil to half a cup of olive oil. Use with a clean dry rag and use to polish your wood furniture. It will give it a nice shine and leave a soft light lemon scent.
