One of the biggest phobias around involves spiders, and we are here to share some common spiders that aren’t dangerous to most people. Quite frankly, while they may bite you if provoked, the bulk of spiders you see are far from dangerous or fatal. The number of venomous spiders out there is really small. We want to give you confidence to let spiders just keep crawling instead of feeling the need to squash them, or as some people joke – burn the house down.

Common Spiders That Aren’t Dangerous
Tarantulas. These large and fuzzy spiders are highly popular pets and often found in elementary school science classrooms. While they can bite when provoked or if they feel threatened, the bulk of these spiders are much more interested in avoiding you than attacking. Very few species are venomous in a manner that could cause real harm. They may be big and ugly, but they are truly a spider that isn’t dangerous to most individuals.
Wolf Spiders. These are the most common household spider. They can grow quite large, and are often found forming webs in or around windowsills. While there bite may bring a bit of irritation similar to any bug bite, they are not dangerous. Wolf spiders are great for killing other insects especially flying insects like gnats and flies.
Pholcid Spiders. These are what are sometimes called cobweb spiders and look similar to a daddy longlegs. They are no dangerous, and are fairly common in small spaces like sheds, crawl spices or dark areas in garages. They can be mistaken for the more dangerous brown recluse due to their markings, but the longer legs will help you to recognize they are safe.
Jumping Spiders. These fun little spiders might freak you out just a bit when they jump around instead of crawl like their cousins in the spider realm, but they are truly harmless. Their jumping habit is to get away from danger. So as they jump, they are much more likely to avoid you than to come near you.
Any spider you encounter is capable and able to bite you, however very few have a venom that would actually cause you harm. These common spiders that aren’t dangerous are actually doing you good in your home. They eat other pesky insects that you don’t like. Without spiders we would be overrun with gnats, flies and other small flying insects. Instead of being fearful of every spider, realize that they are not as dangerous as you see in movies. Spiders are a vital part of the cycle of life.
