It won’t be long now before we start feeling the crisp cool Fall air. It will be time to put a few logs in the fireplace and sit back with a nice cup of hot chocolate. Personally, I can’t wait for the night time bonfires and S’mores treats! Well, why not make your own Homemade Fire Starters? By recycling a few items you would normally throw away, you can make some pretty amazing fire starters in only minutes. With a couple more items, you can even turn them into a really nifty gift! We have an idea for a unique gift basket that anyone would love and I bet it gathers quite a few oohs and aahs! And, if you have access to pine cones, here is another easy idea for homemade fire starters!
DIY Homemade Fire Starters
Toilet paper rolls
Shredded paper or newspaper
Candle wax from old candles or paraffin
To create these homemade fire starters, start by saving old toilet paper rolls. As you can see, I don’t even bother removing the last little bits of paper.
Stuff them with paper from your shredder, allowing some paper pieces to stick out. You could probably use newspaper too.
Save wax from old candles to recycle and give a little fragrance, or I actually used my paraffin hand dip warmer since it was sitting around not getting used!
Use a pair of tongs and either dip once fully in wax or once on each end to seal. Allow to harden on a piece of wax paper and your done!
Use some jute to tie around a bundle and it can be given as a neat gift. It’s that easy!
Unique DIY S’mores Gift Basket!
We created a S’mores kit! Start by creating your Homemade Fire Starters. Then, using a unique basket, add in a piece of burlap, or fabric of some sort to create a cradle for your items. You can add other embellishments as you like. Finally, add in some chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers. The lucky recipient of your homemade gift basket will have their very own ready-to-go S’mores gift package!
