Do you guys remember a while back at the beginning of spring when I told you about saving money by planting your own hanging flower baskets and flower pots? If not, you can go back and read all about it here (scroll to the bottom of the post. But, basically I suggested buying the little 6-packs of the flowers, in this case Impatiens, and planting two flowers per pot. It looked a little bare when first planting, but it has filled out now as you can see above! Impatiens need mostly shade, so I have mine up under the porch. This scorching heat wave we have been having is playing havoc with the blooms, but it is still quite pretty all fluffed out. And, as you can see it has more than filled the pot!
To make these, I had bought a 6-pack of the small Impatiens plants for about $2 and a small bag of potting soil. I was able to plant three flower baskets! You can see what they looked like when I first planted them on the left, compared to what they look like now above.
Compared to the cost of the hanging flower baskets at the store, which where I live was running anywhere from $10 to $15 bucks each, I saved a lot by planting my own.
Plus, there is just something about getting your hands in the dirt, doing it yourself and then watching them grow. It’s a lot more satisfying and I can spend my saved dollars on something else 
I really am no good with plants-hanging or otherwise! I suppose I could try this with some hanging pots in my apartment-and PRAY my cat does not manage to reach them!!
Love Flowers. All year round! And I love planting and growing them, too!
Sometimes, when I need a full developed bloom, I still go for a purchase. But yes, I do agree, it is so much pleasure and fun to see your own flowers to grow from almost nothing to a gorgeously developed plant.

Thanks. I totally agree – that is the best way to go when you want to have a gorgeous garden and don’t want to spend a fortune on it. I love being able to plant flowers year round in FL and Impatiens are one of the most colorful varieties we have available to change things up a bit and have a new color scheme once in awhile. I also like the look of the hanging baskets on a pole in the yard when you don’t have any hooks already hanging from a porch to place them on.
