We enjoy having our yard nicely trimmed and looking good. Our main trouble is having a LOT of yard and a LOT of trees! All those trees means a LOT of trimming. So, weed-eaters or trimmers, and lawn equipment in general really get a work out here! We recently had the opportunity of trying the Ryobi 18V Hybrid String Trimmer.
First, here’s a little about the Ryobi 18V Hybrid String Trimmer:
The Ryobi Hybrid Trimmer is cordless and electric. It is the trimmer that never runs out of power. This unique trimmer is the newest member of the ONE+™ 18V tool family; that means that it will work with any Ryobi 18V battery, and it includes an 18V Li-ion battery that will power any Ryobi 18V tool. The most unique thing about the Ryobi Hybrid is the dual power source. Aside from the battery, this trimmer is also electric – so you can use the battery OR an extension cord. This means you have unlimited power for jobs closer to home, and cordless mobility for jobs beyond. So whether you’re using the fade-free lithium battery or the electric port, this trimmer will never run out of power. On top of that, Ryobi backs this trimmer with convenient features like adjustable cut-width edger capability and an outstanding 3 year warranty.
We were anxious to try the battery power out, so we charged it up and headed out to give it a try.
You can see here, by using a simple twist and pull in the center of the shaft, you can adjust the length for the comfort of whomever is using the trimmer. We love this simple feature! No more one size fits all and aching backs because it was the wrong length!
This is a small planting we have around a telephone pole. You can see the clover and grass is starting to get tall.
Using battery power, the Ryobi Hybrid Trimmer is making short work of the grass and clover! It sped right through, leaving a nice clean look.
You will see in this pic that you can get right up there close to get the job done. The result looks really nice!
Right below the place where you adjust the length of the shaft, there is a place marked ‘EDGE’. With a simple turn it turns the trimmer into an edger! How convenient is that?!

It cuts a nice smooth line easily. Once the excess is blown off with the blower, the drive looks nice and polished!
I told you there were a lot of trees! This is one end of the yard where we live, but you can see the tree bases look really nice and neat after using the trimmer!
The Ryobi 18V Hybrid String Trimmer lasted on battery power about 30-40 minutes before needing charged. At this point, you can add an extension cord and continue working, or hey – put the battery on charge and take a breather with a nice cold glass of ice tea! The battery will charge back up in about an hour and you and the trimmer will be ready to go again!
We are really enjoying the Ryobi Hybrid Trimmer and feel that you will too. It is really unique in that it is battery powered AND electric. No more messy gas cans or trying to figure out how much oil in the gas for them. Just plug up, or attach the battery, and go to work! What’s not to love?
