I am going to admit that I am a straw addict! I got started using a straw because my teeth were sensitive to cold and the straw helped with the issue. Even though I got over my sensitivity issue, I am still using a straw for all cold drinks to this day. I have purchased many packs of plastic straws. I recently had a chance to try out these Epica Stainless Steel Straws. Have you heard of them?
What I didn’t know was that the plastic straws I was using could have been damaging my health with toxic chemicals like BPA, phthalates, etc. To be honest, I had never really thought about it. That is not what attracted me to the stainless steel straws. There were a couple of other reasons that caught my attention.
The first thing that attracted me was how cool they looked! I had never seen stainless steel straws before! They are 8 1/2″ straws that are made out of the same metal that high quality dining and cooking utensils are made from. They won’t rust, scratch, chip or break.
They also have the same bent design as my plastic straws, even down to the fine detailing on the bend of the straw. The bent design makes them easy to use, just like a bendable plastic straw.
The second reason that attracted me to the stainless steel drinking straws was they are reusable! Instead of throwing away all those plastic straws, we can help the environment by saving on plastic thrown in the landfills. They will also save me money on buying straws! Anytime I can find a reusable product, I consider it a plus.
I did have one concern and that was how to clean them. Epica solved this problem with a little brush designed to fit inside the stainless steel straws to clean them. It works like a charm! It takes a whole 3-5 seconds to run it through the straw cleaning them. The straws are dishwasher safe, but unfortunately, I ran into a problem with that on my dishwasher. Seems the holes in my basket allowed the straws to slip through. So, the dishwasher option would depend on your dishwasher basket.
The cleaning brush is made of a stainless steel handle and nylon bristles. The brush would also work great for cleaning sippy cups, sports bottles and thermos straws.
Oh, and did I mention how cool they look?! They look so sleek and modern, it makes any drink, shake, or smoothie more fun and festive!
The stainless steel straws are great for adults, but I would definitely use with adult supervision if children are allowed to use them.
