Cans Get You Cooking | Easy Vegetable Soup Recipe

I was provided with the products and/or compensation in exchange for an honest evaluation and my participation in this campaign as a part of the Mom It Forward Blogger Network.

Did you know that by having a well stocked Cantry, you can have a variety of delicious and nutritious meals at your fingertips? All it takes is a little imagination, or maybe some favorite recipes! At our house, we do most of our shopping at the local Hay’s grocery store and even Walmart. Both stores carry all of my favorite brands including: Allens vegetables, Bush Brothers, Del Monte, Red Gold, Hormel, Old Elpaso, and Progresso. They even carry the salt free varieties for those that would rather have those!

With canned foods, the flavors are locked in fresh right after picking! Many of the canned fruits and vegetables have all the same nutrients as fresh. The canneries use the same process as a lot of us gardeners use to can foods for use during the winter. The advantage that I find using canned food is that they are easy and quicker to use. Also, if you are buying fresh, a lot of times they will spoil before you use them. Cans are readily available with a variety of choices in fruits and vegetable. Cans last a long time without spoilage, which cuts down on waste and expense!

As part of the #CansGetYouCooking program, I was challenged to create a recipe using canned goods. Around here, that is not hard to do! I use canned goods in many of my recipes. Actually, it’s hard to think of a dish that doesn’t use some kind of canned goods!

Here is a super quick and easy Home Made Vegetable Soup recipe, using cans, that I use a lot when running short on time, but need a healthy and nutritious meal on the table.

Ingredients:

Ground Beef
Medium onion, chopped
3 cans tomato sauce
3-4 cans of water (use tomato sauce can to measure)
2 cans diced tomatoes (can use canned whole, just chop up) – undrained
1 can whole kernal corn- undrained
1 can Veg-All- undrained
1 cup macaroni (I use small shells, but any kind can be used)
1 packet Onion Soup Mix
Oregeno, to taste
Onion powder, to taste
Garlic powder, to taste
Salt & pepper, to taste

Please note: All ingredients are, and can be, according to taste or choice. Anything you normally use in a soup would work great!

Instructions:

Brown ground beef in large pan. I use a dutch oven size that can be used on a stovetop

Add onions and continue browning until onions are pearlized.

Drain and add back to the pan.

Add in all other ingredients, with the canned goods being UNdrained. Stir and bring to a boil.

Cans Get You Cooking, Easy Vegetable Soup

Reduce heat and simmer approximately 30 minutes (at least). Simmering helps the flavors absorb and meld together.

You can top with shredded cheddar cheese and serve with crackers or cornbread.

This easy Vegetable Soup recipe makes a quick, easy, and healthy meal for nights you may be in a hurry and cannot babysit the stove for a bigger meal! By using canned goods, you can prepare a tasty, yet healthy meal in little time and with very little fuss!

We would love to know how Cans Get You Cooking! So, if you have a favorite dish that you use canned goods in please comment and share your recipe so we can try it out too!

This looks great! Interesting tip for you: Try adding a piece of parmesan-cheese rind to your soup before bringing to a boil; it adds a delicious cheesy depth of flavor! Just remove the (softened) rind before serving.
