How to Make Your Own Homemade Dehydrated Banana Chips

If you end up with leftover bananas at the end of the week like we do and are sick of freezing them, this is another great alternative. Use them in cereals, oatmeal or any other recipes that call for fruit. They also make a great healthy snack.

Homemade Dehydrated Banana Chips

Ingredients:

1 bunch of ripe bananas sliced
Lemon juice (optional – this will protect the bananas from turning brown)
Food dehydrator

Instructions:

Dehydrated-Banana-Chips-process

1. If using lemon juice to avoid them turning brown, lightly coat the banana slices with the lemon juice in a large bowl. Next, lay the banana slices evenly on your dehydrator trays.

2. Stack the trays and turn the dehydrator on. Allow the bananas to sit for 6-8 hours. Rotate the trays from top to bottom so the bananas dry evenly.

3. Dehydrate another 4-5 hours.

*Keep in mind you will want to keep an eye on them the first time. After 5-6 hours rotate and use your judgment on how crispy/done you would like them.

Store them in an airtight container such as a large mason jar or a large Ziploc type bag.

Drying bananas is a great idea, I get tired of making breads out of smashed ripe bananas, and at times, I won’t even buy bananas as I don’t want them to go bad, thank you for sharing

I really want to do this. It would be so much fun. I do not have a dehydrator but I think I can research online how to use my oven racks and dehydrate them.

I have an old Ronco food dehydrator that still works and these would save money with the ripe banana sales.

I have a dehydrator and never thought to make banana chips!!! Great idea!! esp when bananas are on sale! I wonder how chewy/crunchy they are, most of the dried chips in the store have been dipped in some kind of sweetener, so I never buy them.

Thank you for this! Mine always come out chewy and gross, and now I think I know why: My dehydrator’s recipe book says banana chips only need 6 hours! I was afraid to overcook them, but I think I’ll try again :)
