Most people think of needing a lantern for camping trips and outside night time activities. We also have a need that I’m sure a lot of you can relate to. Where I live, we have more than our share of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. We also have an abundance of winter ice storms. All of which usually knock out the power without fail. Last year, we had an ice storm that broke power lines knocking our power out for 3 days! The first night of darkness and making do was more or less like camping in your own home. But, having only candles for light gets old very fast, not to mention how many candles we went through for a small amount of light. I’m game for roughing it for a little while, but after that the novelty wears off! Having a way to have light during these times is very important.

I was really excited when an opportunity came along for me to try out a AYL Starlight 300 Lumens LED Ultra Bright Lantern! I’m not really sure what I expected, except perhaps flimsy and lightweight. Boy, was I in for a surprise! Every once in while, a product comes along that you can’t help but get excited about. This is one of them! Let me tell you about it.

When I got the AYL Starlight 300 Lumens LED Ultra Bright Lantern out the box, I was immediately impressed! I had expected flimsy and lightweight, but what I got was very heavy duty and very well made! A pleasant surprise indeed! I’m excited to tell you about it!

The AYL Starlight 300 Lumens LED Ultra Bright Lantern uses LED bulbs that have an output of over 300 lumens. It gives you crystal clarity and over 100,000 hours of use! By using the little black button on the front, you can change the lighting mode. It has 3 different lighting modes, depending on what you need. It has high and low, and it also has a flashing strobe. The flashing strobe would be wonderful in case of an emergency while camping or other activity! To change between the settings, just cycle through by pressing the button.

While, I have not actually tried it for water resistance, the AYL Starlight 300 Lumens LED Ultra Bright Lantern has a watertight body reinforced with plastic and rubber molding to keep water from seeping through and for maximum water resistance.

I especially love that the AYL Starlight 300 Lumens LED Ultra Bright Lantern uses 3 “D size batteries (not included), which is simple and affordable! To put them in, just twist off the rubber base (pic on left). Drop the batteries in and then replace the rubber base. There is a trick to putting the base back on. In my excitement to try it out, I didn’t pay attention and was having trouble getting the base back on. When all else fails, read the directions – right? Within the base, there are 2 little red arrows and from the picture above (on the right) it is hard to tell, but there is a raised part that fits inside a groove on the rubber base. Once these are matched up, it will twist on easy peasy!

It has a convenient handle that folds down for storage and folds up, making it easy to carry. This makes it super nice if your electricity is out or if you are camping and need to move to another room or place.

It also has a hook on the bottom that you can fold out that makes it easy to hang up. For camping, this would be especially nice! It comes with a convex reflector cover that provides comprehensive lighting. This is perfect for use in a room or while camping to illuminate an area.

The convex reflector cap can also be removed for more focused lighting. This would be extremely useful if you had a task that you needed more focused light on.

I am very pleased with the AYL StarLight 300 Lumens LED Ultra Bright Lantern! Not only has the quality exceeded my expectations, it has been working wonderfully! During a recent thunderstorm and power outage, it provided ample BRIGHT light – enough to light up an average sized room. My husband has also used the lantern outside. He waited a bit late on cleaning his catch from a fishing trip and needed light to work by. The AYL StarLight 300 Lumens LED Ultra Bright Lantern did the trick!

Now, I don’t have to rely on having enough candles on hand or messy oil lanterns. Another plus is that it is safer than candles or oil lanterns. If you have kids, or dogs like I have, this little jewel is much safer!
