There’s just nothing like the comfort of a warm fire. Think about it, before the invention of fire, food was consumed raw and our ancestors were at the mercy of the cold weather during the winter season.
Now a days, we have fire pits for s’mores, fire places for ambiance and wood burning stoves to heat our homes. The only thing that hasn’t changed is how difficult it can be sometimes to get a good fire going – that is where these great little fire starters come into play! We also have another easy way to make homemade Fire Starters that are super cute too!
Make Your Own Easy Fire Starters
Here’s what you’ll need:
Pine Cones
Plain wax
Wicks
Cup Cake baking cups (Snowman)
Directions for making these fire starters:
1. Set up your work area. If you’re in doors then be sure to line your table with newspapers. Cut your wicks approximately 2 ” long and place in a pile at your workstation.
2. Place your cup cake pans, cupcake baking cups, wicks and pine cones all on your workstation. You’ll need to be prepared to work fast once you’ve melted your wax.
3. Melt your wax on your kitchen burner on low to medium heat.
4. Pour melted way into lined cup cake pans about 3/4ths of the way up. Immediately add wicks to each cupcake baking cup. Immediately add 1 pine cone to each baking cup.
Allow to cool set before removing from pan. Store in an old popcorn tin or canister. These make wonderful gifts too.

This is such a great idea! I was just wondering, when you put the wicks in and then put the pine cone, do you put the pine cone on the wick or beside it?

Thanks so much for the recipe for Make Your Own Easy Fire Starters! We go camping an awful lot in the summer and we usually have some sort of fire pit available to us. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve tried to start a fire and failed! We’ve tried newspaper, etc. and it just doesn’t catch the wood good enough to really burn. These candles seem really easy to make and I bet they work quite well! I have a whole basket in my basement of pine cones and I seriously was thinking about throwing them out. Now I know what I can do with them! They are pretty dried out so they would work wonderfully! I just need to get the wax and wicks before I can make these! I have read where you take wax from old candles & put in your cardboard egg cartons. I have heard they work well, I will try because it sounds simple & we use a wood stove in the winter.

I have made something like this using laundry lint and stubs of candles melted- your idea is way less messier.
