Most Energy Efficient Tips For Saving Money At Home

You can easily cut your electric bill by making your home more energy efficient in a few simple steps. Contrary to popular belief, making your home more energy doesn’t take expensive or overly-intense measures. Use these tricks to make your bills lower and to conserve precious resources in your home.

Most Energy Efficient Tips for Saving Money at Home

Most Energy Efficient Tips For Saving Money At Home

Buy Energy Star Appliances
When looking for new appliances, try to buy one with an Energy Star label. Energy Star appliances meet requirements that are set by the United States Department of Energy and the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Not only can Energy Star appliances help you save on utility bills, but they are also more durable than your standard appliances. This one can take some expense up front, but will save you bundles down the road.

Replace Your Windows
If you have older windows you could be losing tons of cool air during the summer and warmed air during the winter. As a result, you will have to rely on your heating and cooling system even more which can raise your bills. Check out places like Arch Design that offer more varied options and are made with greener materials.

Avoid Overusing Appliances
Even if you have Energy Star appliances, you should avoid overusing them. Keep your most of them turned off when you aren’t using them and unplug smaller items like toasters and stereos if possible. If an appliance is plugged into a wall, it will still use energy even if it is turned off.

Adjust The Temperature on Your Water Heater
Many water heaters are set to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. You can save money by lowering the temperature on your water heater to 120 degrees. It might mean a longer time heating up the shower, but you’ll be using less energy to heat up water for all your household tasks.

Use Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs

If you have incandescent light bulbs in your home, they are probably using up a lot of energy which is why it is a good idea to switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs when possible. They use less energy, which can cut your electric costs. Compact fluorescent light bulbs can also last up to twelve times longer than incandescent light bulbs.

Making your home more energy efficient is a lot easier than you think. Save energy by replacing your old windows with new, more energy-efficient ones. You can also save energy by reducing the temperature on your thermostat, switching to compact fluorescent light bulbs, buying Energy Star appliances and turning off and unplugging appliances when they are not being used.

Thank you for posting this! <3 I think that this is such an important topic, and that it’s actually pretty easy to make small changes that can really add up. (We don’t necessarily need to have solar panels professionally installed- some of us simply don’t have room in the family budget for that!) I’ve made quite a few little adjustments, as the cold winter kicked in, including: lining/sealing drafty windows, making DIY draft-stoppers, and making a DIY space heater using terra cotta pots (it actually works!). I’d like to make a small DIY solar panel one of these days. ….Thanks, Pinterest! :p
