Storage and Organizational Secrets for Your Garden Shed

Keeping an organized garden shed will save you lots of time and energy. You will not have to move tons of soil in order to get to the lawn mower and you will not spend twenty minutes looking for some tools because they are buried somewhere in that mess. Follow these simple advice and turn you shed into something pleasant.

Storage and Organizational Secrets for Your Garden Shed

Make a Tool Wall

Having a wall space that is reserved for tools only will save you from desperately wasting time on looking for a saw, wrench or whatever the piece you need at that moment. Knock some nails into the wall and hang your tools by organizing them according to your needs. After hanging them, use a pencil to carefully outline each tool and trace over it with a permanent marker. This way you will always know if something is missing and where to return it after you are done. Also, you can take advantage of a pegboard organizer and store all of your gardening tools neatly.

Utilize the Baskets and Bins

Cute wicker baskets are just perfect for keeping smaller tools and equipment you use every day. Hang a couple of baskets from a shed door or on the wall and keep your gloves, twines, shears and other gardening gear there only and never lose them again. Plus, these charming baskets will create a warm atmosphere in your shed, making it look vintage and organized. Also, if you have a few old bushel baskets, you can utilize them and keep there the birdseed, mulch or potting mixes, and simply store them under a bench or a table.

Quality Shelving

If you are running out of space on the floor, it is time to go up and find some shelving solutions. Shelves are the best possible way of utilizing all the space you have, and you can simply store anything there. Consider installing solid and quality shelves that can endure any weight and you can install them from wall to wall and in several different levels. There you can keep all of your spare pots, jars filled with nails, bolts and other small equipment. If your entire shed is wooden and you know you will not keep anything too heavy on them, then you can go with wooden shelves. But if you will keep some heavier things there, then you might consider getting metal shelves that are not installed on the wall, but rather as a station on its own.

Have a Potting Station

To avoid messes all over your garden or shed, you should consider building a potting station. The best material to use for this piece is stainless steel which is quite practical and it offers a stunning utilitarian look. Around your station you should keep buckets and trays in order to keep everything organized and clean. Also, you can build such station right in front of your shed, thus making more room for other stuff in the shed, and you can freely spill the soil without worrying about cleaning.

Stay Away from Cluttering

It can be easy to organize everything at the beginning, but the real challenge is keeping the shed clutter-free on the long run. To do that, you just simply have to clean up after yourself every time you do some work around the garden. Label bins and positions on the shelves so you would always be reminded to put things back at their place, and always get rid of unnecessary garbage and used up tools and furniture in order to keep it clean and to increase the capacity of your shed. Gardening can be a dirty job, but that does not mean that your shed should look the same.

Now that you know a few secrets about keeping an organized shed you can start your little cleaning project. Along with your garden, your shed too should be a relaxing, peaceful place, reserved just for you.
